What Is An Ironworker (Field)?
Reinforcing - Ironworkers place reinforcing steel bars in forms that will be filled with concrete. The bars must be lifted, carried and placed by hand. They are then held in position by wrapping and tying wire at the intersections of steel.
Structural- Ironworkers
assemble, erect and install prefabricated iron shapes to form the framework
buildings, towers, bridges and other structures.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Applicants must be physically able to do work performed in the trade.
- Applicants must have a high school diploma, high school
proficiency certificate or a GED transcript with minimum scores of 40 on
individual tests and an overall average of 45 or above.
- Applicants should be able to read, write and speak the
English language in order to comprehend instruction and safety.

the Ironworkers Union will afford you excellent medical, dental and optical
coverage for yourself and your family. The apprentice will also be eligible for
vacation, pension and annuity plan benefits.
Program
The three (3) year
Apprenticeship Program includes 3600 hours of on-the-job training and
approximately 600 hours of classroom instruction.
